Marteau Matraque is just the kind of band that represents a serious headache for all the staunch cataloguers out there. The instruments remind us of a brass band, yet the energy of the group has more in common with punk. The tracks follow on from each other rather like on a power trio EP... except there are five of them ! In addition, the spirit of rock clearly comes across in their repertoire, though their acoustic playing and improvisation would suggest that they are more closely related to jazz, wouldn’t it ? To hell with the labels ! This festival is also, and indeed above all else, a chance to forget about labels for a moment and to prioritise listening and the communicative pleasure of music.
